Come Sail Your Ships Around Me

This is incredible – The Ship Song Project.

Not often does a song give me goosebumps anymore – but the remastering of Nick Cave’s classic to profile the Sydney Opera House certainly has. It’s stirring.

In the video we have:

  • Paul Kelly (who I absolutely adore)
  • Kev Carmody
  • Katie Noonan
  • Angus and Julia Stone
  • Daniel Johns (whose voice almost took on a Pavlov’s Dog type quality)
  • Sarah Blasko
  • The ACO and its amazing conductor Richard Tognetti
  • Bangarra
  • John Bell and Bell Shakespeare
  • Neil Finn
  • Teddy Tahu Rhodes
  • Martha Wainwright
  • Sydney Symphony
  • Australian Ballet
  • Opera Australia

While I think this video is pretty spot on, I would have LOVED to see The Whitlams included. Their sound is undoubtedly “Sydney” to me.

Makes me want to visit very soon.

(On an unrelated note, if you’re ever in Sydney, do visit The Rocks Discovery Museum and have a good look at their documentaries and information about that part of the city. Incredible, eye-opening stuff.)
